Board Chair (7/25)
Mark Ziarnik
Mark grew up in New Jersey, England, and Belgium, and spent his career as an aerospace program manager. He retired in 2016 after 34 years with United Technologies Corporation. A long-time summer visitor to Pemaquid, he and his wife Penny became full-time residents of New Harbor in 2017. Since 2019, Mark has volunteered as project coordinator for the Mill at Pemaquid Falls preservation project and is honored to serve on the OBHS Board.

Jody Holmes Bachelder
A native of New Harbor, Jody holds a B.A. in French from Colby College and a Master’s in Library Science from the University of South Carolina. She worked as a teacher and librarian before becoming a full-time writer. Her 2022 book Here First: Samoset and the Wawenock of Pemaquid, Maine explores early Wabanaki-European contact and is being adapted into a graphic novel for young readers. Jody lives in Brunswick with her husband, Todd.

Jody McKenzie Harris
Originally from Massachusetts, Jody moved to Maine in 2007 and lives in Round Pond with her husband Bob. A Smith College graduate with concentrations in anthropology, art history, and museum studies, she has worked at Historic Deerfield and the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association. She is a former staff member of Pemaquid Watershed Association and Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust and currently serves as vice president of Helping Hands of Round Pond.

Keith Mestrich
Keith is a New Harbor resident with over three decades of leadership experience in finance, labor, and nonprofit sectors. He is a founding partner of a financial services venture for low-income communities and was CEO and President of Amalgamated Bank. He currently chairs the Board of the Frances Perkins Center and holds board positions with the Central Lincoln County YMCA, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and the National Trust for Local News.

Chuck Farrell
Chuck relocated to New Harbor in 2001 after a career in international marketing of high-tech products. He has served as a Maine Judiciary Court Mediator and has held board positions with the Pemaquid Watershed Association and the Damariscotta YMCA. Chuck has contributed to several town committees in Bristol and continues to be active in local civic life.

Chris Hall
Chris has lived in Bristol Mills for 35 years, with interludes as a college president overseas and as a steel industry executive in New York. He served in the Maine Legislature and was Bristol’s Town Administrator through the pandemic. Chris holds a doctorate from Oxford in arms control history and has authored works on both international policy and local history.

Ed Kitson
Ed began his career in archaeology and later managed a successful resale operation for a nonprofit. He transitioned into estate sales and appraisals, founding Aves Appraisal, Valuation and Estate Services. Ed relocated to New England in 2019, where his work now spans the region. He brings a strong background in material culture and valuation to the OBHS Board.

Dan Lemieux
Born in Farmington, Maine, Dan is a retired technology education teacher with 37 years of experience. He taught woodworking, metalworking, and coached robotics. A skilled builder, Dan moved to Bristol recently but has deep family roots in the area. He volunteers with OBHS and the Carpenter’s Boatshop and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Emile Lugosh
Born in Montreal, Emile is a Navy veteran and former Franklin Institute exhibit designer. He later worked in engineering and management at Exact Dispensing in Newcastle. A longtime Bristol resident, he owns and operates the Bicycle Repairman shop in Round Harbor. Emile is also an active musician and serves as Vice Chairman of the Bristol School Board.

Rita McKinney
Originally from South Carolina, Rita is a retired attorney and former Director of the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. She has served on numerous nonprofit boards. Rita and her husband Allen have split their time between South Carolina and Round Pond since 2014. They are founding members of The Band From Away, formed for the Round Pond Fourth of July Parade.

Bob McLaughlin
Bob and his wife Roberta have lived on the Pemaquid peninsula for over 40 years. A retired trial lawyer, Bob co-founded DYNAWAVE, a manufacturer of precision microwave components. He is a founding member of OBHS and former board member, as well as a past president of the Damariscotta River Association and board member of Boothbay Region Land Trust.

Anne Nord
Anne spent most of her life in Connecticut and had a career in education, ultimately serving as a school principal. After retiring to Damariscotta in 2019, she became involved with Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, OBHS, and local environmental education efforts. A Master Gardener, she shares her knowledge of native plants and has helped envision green space development at OBHS.

Pat Porter
Pat first visited Maine 50 years ago and became a full-time resident after retiring from a career that kept her on the road. She is currently President of the Pemaquid Point Association, Vice President of Caring for Kids, and was a key volunteer in the Save the Mill Campaign. Pat has lived in her current home for over three decades and remains an active community member.
Staff - Executive Director
Michael Chaney
As part-time Executive Director of OBHS, Michael brings a deep interest in Maine maritime history and the Maine woods to both the Pemaquid Mill and the OBHS History Center. A native of Alna and part-year resident of Louds Island for over thirty years, he returned to Maine in 2010 after a distinguished career, including roles as Executive Director of the Yarmouth Historical Society and the Frances Perkins Homestead National Historic Landmark. His research into the oral history of woodsmen and river drivers culminated in the 1993 publication White Pine on the Saco River, part of the Northeast Folklore series from the University of Maine. Michael has also served as COO of the New Hampshire Historical Society, Associate Director of the New Hampshire Humanities Council, and President of the New Hampshire Political Library.

Chuck Rand
Chuck grew up in Damariscotta and graduated from Lincoln Academy. He brings extensive experience in museums, libraries, and archives to OBHS. Before returning to Maine in 2010, he served for thirteen years as the inaugural Director of the Dickinson Research Center at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. His prior roles include Museum Specialist/Archivist at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Numismatic Collection, Curator/Head Cataloger of the Political Commercial Archives at the University of Oklahoma, and Project Archivist at the Maine Historical Society. Most recently, he worked as Librarian/Archivist at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Community for eight years. An historical archaeologist, Chuck spent ten summers excavating at Colonial Pemaquid and served on the OBHS Board from 2014–2021, including four years as Co-President and nine years as volunteer collections manager.
